CHALLENGE:
There's not enough bicycle parking in Dublin.
PROPOSITION:
Should Dublin temporarily increase the amount of bicycle parking during the Summer half of the year?
DESCRIPTION:
1 car-shaped bicycle hangar was placed onto Capel Street for a period of 4 weeks.
OUTCOMES:
This trial cost Dublin City Council €0. (We already owned the car-shaped bicycle parking rack.)
The parking was not used as much as expected (eg never at capacity).
DECISION:
Pivot. With Dublin's climate, there wasn't enough of a difference in cycling levels to warrant seasonal bicycle parking, but rather a permanent increase in bicycle parking.
NEXT STEPS:
Through a new Beta Project, explore the use of easily removeable bicycle parking (such as the above rack) to look at the expansion of additional bicycle parking around the city.

I think we should look at Amsterdam and how their bike systems work.
Dublin has worked on pedestrianizing Trinity College surrounding roads but in fact I think 1km-1.5km radius from Ha’penny bridge should all be pedestrianized, bike zones and reduced areas for taxi (where they are needed most). Buses kept as is or maybe a little less. While we have the train station to get us to the edge of the city (more routes are coming soon) the luas and bus services are as good to get into the city.
If the above happened, car parking would become areas where bike parking, stands etc would be placed. This would encourage the irish people to cycle more. As we can see in the last couple of years scooters, bikes, electric scooters have increased dramatically in Dublin as people hate traffic and these devices get them to work much easier.
