CHALLENGE:
The disabled parking symbol that we use is the one specified by the Road Traffic Regulations 1997, and so is now 21 years old. Is there a need to update or to revise it? Should it reflect the various types of disabilities that are eligible to use those particular parking spaces for example?
PROPOSITION:
One possible revised image that we could use would be the Accessible Icon (as pictured above), which was designed to show the person with the disability actively propelling themselves.

Hi, my husband is visually impaired and we’ve had abuse from passers-by on several occasions when using his parking pass (they are always embarrassed when he whips out his white cane!). I imagine it’s even worse for people with invisible disabilities. While I like the less passive nature of the accessible icon above, it would be great to move away from the wheelchair as the signifier of disability.
