CHALLENGE:

DCC Beta is generally able to create physical prototypes, but digital ones can be more complex. 

PROPOSITION:

Could we help support the creation of an adult coding group for Dublin which solely focuses on civic issues and opportunities - similar to Code For America in the U.S.?

DESCRIPTION:

We met with Eugene Eichelberger and Shannon Eichelberger who decided to grow the idea of 'Code for Dublin'. From June 2013 the newly formed group met and began to grow in numbers. 

We arranged for Code for Dublin to also avail of a meeting space in Dublin City Council's MACRO Centre for free, and they held monthly sessions and began to look at several projects. 

OUTCOMES:

This trial cost Dublin City Council €0. 

In January 2014, Code for Ireland was launched with the same aims as Code for Dublin. Much larger, and launched in partnership with Code For America, the easy decision was made to instead fold the Code for Dublin group into this new group.
