(Why are Beta Projects removed?)
CHALLENGE:
There's not enough bicycle parking in Dublin.
PROPOSITION:
Should Dublin temporarily increase the amount of bicycle parking during the Summer half of the year?
DESCRIPTION:
1 car-shaped bicycle hangar was placed onto Capel Street for a period of 4 weeks.
OUTCOMES:
This trial cost Dublin City Council €0. (We already owned the car-shaped bicycle parking rack.)
The parking was not used as much as expected (eg never at capacity).
DECISION:
Pivot. With Dublin's climate, there wasn't enough of a difference in cycling levels to warrant seasonal bicycle parking, but rather a permanent increase in bicycle parking.
NEXT STEPS:
Through a new Beta Project, explore the use of easily removeable bicycle parking (such as the above rack) to look at the expansion of additional bicycle parking around the city.
